Although we had to reschedule a few times due to some crazy snowstorms, Olivia & I finally were able to get together for a fall style shoot. This sweet, chill girl is amazing in front of the camera! It was pretty chilly, but the light was perfect - it had a very painter-ly quality that day. We've been calling this our renaissance - gypsy - fairy shoot. I might need to start coming up with better names for style shoots one of these days :)
Olivia - thanks for such a fun fun shoot! I loved it! Can't wait to work with you again :)
This is my lovely friend Whitney. She lives in this awesome school bus, and as soon as she told me she had painted a mustache on the front, I knew we had to do a shoot. I'm pretty jealous, actually. It was my last shoot in living in BV and it was perfect.
My Holga lens in these next few shots made the sky look so much more dramatic:
One of my (many) favorites:
Whitney - you're the best, love!
I've been dying to do something edgier and moodier for a while, and thankfully I have AWESOME, HOT friends who are just as crazy as me and are willing to help me make that happen. Oh, the looks we got in little Buena Vista... priceless. I came home from this shoot reeking of cigarette smoke and covered in glitter and champagne and everything was absolutely amazing. I think one of my favorite parts about this shoot is knowing that all these wonderful tattooed kids met in Australia...in Bible college :)Enjoy our dark-smoky-juvenile delinquent-wild child-rainbow-glitter-champagne-bathtub party shoot :)
My friend & former housemate Jenn (in the tutu) was driving down the street and saw us shooting. She pulled over to laugh at us and ended up abandoning her car on the side of Main Street and joining the shoot. I can't imagine it without her!
Then on to the bathtub glitter rainbow party. Which was RIDICULOUS. By this point, everyone's like, "Can we stop smoking yet?" And I'm like, "Definitely not. But now you can start drinking that champagne." We dumped SO MUCH glitter everywhere, and it didn't quite show up as well as I had hoped, but it is now permanently caked in everything we own.
Love you guys. Hardcore :)
My favorite types of people to work with are people who are excited about their session, confident, up for anything, and creative in their own right. Chandra fits all of the above to a T, so it should come as no surprise that I freaking LOVED her trash the dresses (yes, plural) session. I got to see these guys so many times in one week - it was amazing! They got married here in BV one weekend, and then held their big reception in Denver the following weekend. The morning before the reception, Chandra, her mom, a bottle of champagne, her stylist, and I prowled all around downtown Denver in some of her epic custom dress creations. I knew I was going to have fun when she said, "How would you feel about totally outrageous hair and makeup?" but I had no idea what level of awesomeness I was in for. She found a free wedding dress on Craigslist and created a custom couture dress with her own sewing skills. Then, she moved on to her mom's old wedding dress, turning it into one of the most bad-ass punk creations I have ever seen. I'm not even sure what to call this session - trash the dress? We didn't really "trash" it... Fashion? An amazing display of outrageous hair, makeup, and sewing skills? I seriously can't explain how excited I get about shoots like this -or how much I love Chandra :) Oh yeah- now is when I warn you that this isn't exactly what you might call a small post...
The following shots are taken in Chandra's home!
When she altered this dress (this is the free Craigslist one), she kept the long train but made it miniskirt-short in front. I've never seen anything like it!
Then on to Union Station in her mom's old wedding dress, where we were drenched in the most perfect light ever...
This hair is sooo amazing...
Love, love, love!
One of my favorite things ever is smoke in the sunlight. Making the below right image one of my favorite images ever. A huge thank-you to the random girl smoking by the train tracks - you made these shots epic!
Then to the delightfully eerie Double Daughter's - one of my favorite bars in Denver. If you haven't been yet, you have to. It feels like a Tim Burton movie!
Chandra - GAH! I LOVE YOU SO MUCH!
